SEA Games 31th: Singapore team had their first practice session at Dam Vac golf course

Singapore Golf’s team will be practicing at Dam Vac golf course from April 29th to May 3rd before entering the competition at SEA Games 31st.

On the morning of April 29th, the Singapore golf’s team arrived in Vietnam to prepare for the 31st SEA Games in May. After a short break, in the afternoon of the same day, coach Matthew Ballard and 5 athletes from Singapore farmiliarized themself with Dam Vac golf course.

Due to the sudden rain at the near end of the day, the training session of the Singapore team strayed from the plan. They could only practice in the Driving Range area as well as Chip, Putt at Dam Vac golf course. Nevertheless, the training session still took place in a cheerful atmosphere and full of laughter with games from coach Matthew Ballard.

Two Singaporean male golfers arrived at Dam Vac golf course on the afternoon of April 29th is Ryan Ang and Justin Kuk. They are the top golfers of the Lion City when both of them are respectively the defending champion and runner-up of the Singapore National Amateur Championship. Ryan Ang is currently ranked 422nd on the WAGR, and Justin Kuk's position is 684th.

The two remaining golfers of the Singapore team who will attend the 31st SEA Games but have yet to arrive to Vietnam are Qi Wen Wong and Hiroshi Tai. Unfortunately, SEA Games 30th champion – James Leow could not attend this year's tournament because of his busy study schedule in the US.

 

Meanwhile, the three female golfers of the Singapore team at SEA Games 31th are Aloysa Atienza, Inez Ng and Hailey Loh. Aloysa Atienza is currently Singapore's second to best female amateur golfer ranked 286th on WAGR. Before coming to Vietnam, the 1998 golfer has just  won the SGA 1st National Ranking Game on April 20th-22nd. This will be a springboard for Aloysa to aim towards the gold medal at SEA Games 31st.

Coach Matthew Ballard and his students will have four more practice sessions to familiarize themselves with Dam Vac golf course before trying to conquer SEA Games 31st gold medal from May 13th to May 18th.
